We are very fortunate to have JOHN EDMOND as our special guest/performer who will be traveling all the way from South Africa to be with us on that weekend. Let's make this year's celebration one to remember and cherish. For those of you who are not familiar with John Edmond, here is a brief introduction. John is somewhat of a legend around campfires from Zambia to Zululand and from Namibia to Mozambique as a singer, songwriter, entertainer, story teller, author and bush pilot. He has been there and done it all and continues to strive on. His musical career has taken him through the 60's, 70's pop, country and TV eras with 7 smash South African hits in a row, along with Dave Mills, the only man in South Africa to ever do this. John is also an icon in Zimbabwe and to this day has dominated their charts. But let us not forget the impact he made with his Rhodesian "troopie" songs of long ago, cherished to this day by so many of us. ********************************************** HOTEL INFORMATION: The Alexis Park Resort is the premiere all suite non gaming resort in Las Vegas. --------------------------------------------------------------------Jan. 25 10**Rhodie Vegas Reunion Save the DateThe RA's annual reunion has been scheduled for October 8-10, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Please mark your calendars and don't miss this special reunion which will celebrate the association's 30th Anniversary. We are also thrilled to announce that singer/song writer John Edmond of "troopie" songs fame will be the special guest/entertainer for the reunion weekend.Details concerning the reunion will be posted at a later date in the RA's website, www.rhodesianassociationusa.com and in this group. For questions regarding the reunion feel free to contact Marianna Kondourajian at rhomk1_aol.com.We would also like to add the following appeal by John Nash-Webber, Chairman of the Rhodesian Association in the USA:"Hello All,I trust that the hilarity of the New Year finds us all in good shape. I am optimistic for the year. The upcoming reunion is the 30th!! Quite an achievement. We have secured John Edmond to perform at this milestone event.Which brings me to the point of this missive. We need to begin as soon as possible to secure their airfares to get the best rates. So I am urging all to get their dues ($30 per family) in to Peter Steiniger, the association's treasurer, as soon as possible (address below).Perhaps you could also consider sending a prepayment for the reunion fees which usually run $80-$100 per person, as well. Please note that the RA is a non-profit organization and funds remaining afer reunion expenses are donated to Nerina Gardens Retirement Home.Another option that has been suggested is to use airline miles to secure the tickets for the Edmonds. Should you be willing to donate unused miles for this purpose we would love to hear from you.Thanking you all in anticipation.John Nash-WebberChairmanjohn_nwmolds.comPlease remit all payments made payable to the RHODESIAN ASSOCIATION to the following address:Peter Steiniger - P. O. Box 2594, Walnut Creek, CA 94595, USAemail - petersteinige_comcast.net"

---------------------------------------------------------------------Jan. 20 10**Update from Ann Bishop of Nerina Gardens Retirement Home Caron, Before you ask I thought I would be maningi efficient and send an update. Thank you all from a very very grateful heart. Your donations were truly a lifeline this year, and I want you all to know how much I appreciate your support and generosity. This year we received hardly any donations, I think the recession is far worse than our Government is letting on. Here at Nerina Gardens, the Old Age Home, none of the wards in the hospital section received any Christmas gifts from the public, for the first time since we opened over 25 years ago. It is of course totally understandable. Anyway, a lovely Rhodesian lady who works for one of the Airliners dropped in a box each of Shampoo, Conditioner, Hand Cream and Shaving stuff, so each of the Nerina Garden's Residents that didnt go out for Christmas at least had a little something to open. I was so proud of our Rhodesian Community, who are mostly battling themselves, but managed to make me Mince Pies, Little Christmas Cakes and lots of small things to open on Christmas Day. Typically, it was for the destitute South African Pensioners as well as our own. I don't know what I would have done without you chaps in the USA this year. Almost all the financial donations came only from that direction. I am so grateful to you all. This Christmas I managed to deliver 92 Christmas Hampers (Apple Boxes) to each of our Rhodesian Oldies. A wonderful couple in Durbanville gave me a 6 pack of Castle Lager and a jar of Ponds Cold Cream for each couple. Wish you could have seen the faces of the men ~ I think I am without any question, their favourite person in the world. It was quite funny as most of the Ladies wanted Beers themselves!! It is the last thing any of them would have bought had they had any money, so it was really such a pleasure to spoil them with something 'unnecessary'. This year at least 6 of our Rhodie Pensioners need to come into the Home (Nerina Gardens) as they are too frail to cope alone in flats, so I am going to really have to do a major fundraising drive. It is heartbreaking to see them struggling, but at the moment there is nothing I can do about it except check up regularly. It makes it all the more special to receive help from people like yourselves. I would really appreciate any connections/contacts or input you chaps could give me. Once again, my very grateful thanks once again for your support and generosity. May this be a blessed, peaceful and prosperous year for you. From a very grateful heart, Much love to you all, Annie.---------------------------------------------------------------------Jan. 19 10**Southern California Rhodies and Zimbos Meetup at the Springbok Bar and Grillon February 13th, 2010 from 4 pm to 7pmAddress: 16153 Victory Blvd., Van Nuys, CA Please join us for a casual get together over a few beers, meet old friends and make new ones too.For more information you may email Marianna at rhomk1_aol.com---------------------------------------------------------------------Dec. 21 09**Letter from Ann Bishop of Nerina Gardens Retirement HomeDear Caron, I am so sorry ~ Yes the money did get here ~ I am ashamed to say it arrived on the 9th November. I am convinced I wrote and thanked one of you, but I cannot find the letter, so must apologise profusely and say please forgive me for such tardiness. We actually received R16,326.00 which is an enormous boost for us. It really was a lifesaver, and will enable me to have a Christmas Party for all our Rhodesian Pensioners. I cannot tell you what a relief the money was to me. I was really worrying about how I was going to do a party, and because we are so behind with the rentals, I felt I couldn't ask for any money out of the Rhodesian Rental Fund, and then your cheque arrived, so it was all alright. Thank you all from a very very grateful Ann Bishop. I pray you will all have a Blessed Festive Season, and 'next year will be better' Lots of love to you wonderful Rhodesians, and once again, thank you for your incredible generosity and support.
